Cadel Evans set to Create Cycling History in 2008 on SBS
“Cadel Evans is poised to create a slice of history when he competes in cycling's biggest event of the year,” said SBS sport presenter, Michael Tomalaris, who will host his thirteenth Tour de France for SBS this July. “There's never been as much anticipation for Australian cycling in the lead-up to a Tour de France as there is in 2008,” said Michael Tomalaris. “An Australian has never won the Tour in its 105 year existence, yet Evans will start the three week spectacle as pre-race favourite.” Michael Tomalaris will host SBS’s LIVE stage coverage as audiences enjoy more drama and excitement on the roads of France when SBS broadcasts from the earlier time of 10:00pm (AEST) for the 95th Tour de France. During the 21-stage race, the network will show daily race updates at 7:15am, covering all the overnight action, and a half hour highlights program at 6:00pm. Joining Michael in France will be reporter, John Flynn, former pro-cyclist, David McKenzie and commentary duo, Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. “The event is now entrenched into the Australian television sporting psyche as a result of SBS's magnificent coverage and the rise of home-grown talent conquering the roads of France.
