All Cyclists using Sydney Olympic Park

Following is a letter from the Manager Traffic and Transport at Sydney Olympic Park Authority which is self explanatory. Cycling NSW and Sydney Olympic Park Authority have worked hard to accommodate Cycling events within the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. I urge all users of this great cycling facility to exercise care and show responsibility when training/riding and racing within the area.

Your assistance in observing the rules within the Park will be greatly appreciated by all and help to protect this venue for future cycling events.

Letter from Sydney Olympic Park Authority

"Dear cyclist,

During the Royal Easter Show 2008 there were a number of cycle accidents in Sydney Olympic Park.

In addition there have been a number of complaints from members of the general public regarding the behaviour of cyclists during the "unofficial" training rides on most Thursday mornings in the Park.

Roads are to be shared by cyclists and vehicles.

It is important that each group respect the other and their rights to be on the road.

To improve safety for all Park users, the Authority requests all cyclists using roads within the Park comply with the road rules, in particular stopping on a red signal at traffic lights, stopping at stop signs, riding maximum of 2 abreast and leaving enough separation between the cyclists in front and or vehicles to stop safely to avoid collisions.

Additionally for cyclists riding on shared pedestrian/bicycle pathways, it is requested that the cyclists ride to the prevailing conditions and note that these pathways are for recreational use and the speed of cyclists should be below 20km/hr.

To get a message to motor vehicle drivers, during Thursday mornings from 05:00 to 08:00 when precinct operations allow, the Authority will display on the variable message signs on Australia Avenue, Holker Street and Hill Road the message: "Watch for cyclists, the road is there to share".

Your assistance in this matter is appreciated."
