Calling all Women Masters Riders

 

The Masters Commission is running a come and try track day held on July 20 9am to 5pm at Dunc Gray Velodrome at Bass Hill

Who: For women turning 30 and above this year or next year and who are licensed with Cycling Australia. There is no upper age limit.

What to bring: Track bike, helmet, cycling clothes, snacks, lunch or money to buy lunch at the handlebar tavern, tools if you have them.   A limited number of track bikes may be available for loan at a surcharge to the base cost.  Please enquire as to availability as early as possible.

Guest speaker and mentor: Michelle Crawford World Masters 2 Pursuit champion 2007

Standard: There will be 2 groups. Group 1 will be those who have never ridden the track before or have dabbled a little on a flat track. Group 2 will be those who have been riding the track for less than 2 years and still feel that they need to learn a bit.

What will be covered:

Group 1 will learn to ride the velodrome confidently being able to accelerate out of the saddle on the banking and be able to do a standing start to do a timed time trial. They will also learn to ride a pace line swapping off turns. There will be theory on gearing, warming up and training.

Group 2 will also do pace line and standing starts. They will learn the more advanced skills and tactics for sprinting, the 500m time trial, pursuiting and scratch and points race riding. They will also cover gearing, equipment, using aero bars, nutrition building up a tool kit and training for an event.
