Masters Descend on Port in Record Numbers!

Entries have closed for the 2008 Peak Coffee NSW Masters Road and Criterium Championships, with a record 215 riders competing in the Road Race and 175 in the Criteriums.  The racing should be very exciting with some big names coming out of the ‘woodwork’ to compete not only for an individual Championship title but also with their mates for the Club’s Shield.

To clear up a couple of conflicting pieces of information on the various website, the organizers would like to confirm that Women’s MAS 1-3 will be doing 3 laps of the Long Course.  Also, the Presentation Dinner will be held on Saturday night (not Sunday).

The Presentation Dinner (included in Road Race Entry Fee) will be held at the Westport Bowling Club, Buller Street, overlooking the Hasting River on Saturday @ 6pm for 6.30pm meal.

The Port Macquarie Cycle Club has again commissioned a painting by the highly acclaimed artist, Rex Newell to be auctioned at the dinner.   The seascape painting of one of Port’s favourite beaches, Oxley Beach, will be auctioned at the Masters Championship Presentation dinner on Saturday 17th May.  It is valued in excess of $1,500.

Also being auctioned is a weekend “Relax and Rejuventae” getaway for two at Rydges, Port Macquarie’s premier hotel. The package includes two night’s accommodation in a waterview Room, overlooking the Hastings River, including Buffet Breakfast Daily for two adults plus a $100 voucher to spend in the Day Spa.  Valued at $780.00

REMINDER!!  Very limited additional dinner tickets will be able to be purchased on the day so please book extra tickets for family and friends by emailing info@portmaccycleclub.com.au or phoning Annie on 6585-9239 / 0408 859239.  Dinner Tickets $25 adults and $12 Children under 12yrs.

Please note that riders must be present at the Presentation dinner to receive their prize money for the Road Race

2008 Cootamundra Haycarters Race Conditions

Due to the overwhelming response to entries for our Haycarters double header weekend, The Cootamundra Club in conjunction with the NSW Police and the Cycling NSW, have enforced a few conditions for the two races to be held this coming weekend.

These are to be strictly adhered to otherwise the offending riders will be pulled from the race and either fined or suspended at the Commissaires discretion.

There will be a short route back to Cootamundra at around the 35 km mark.

Any rider that is dropped from their bunch or caught by the scratch bunch and has no chance of continuing at the increase in pace, MUST turn and come home the short way. There will be a commissaire on the corner and He will direct all dropped riders accordingly.

We will have the village of Wallendbeen as sterile and all riders MUST travel the roundabout in the correct manner. That means no cutting the corner or you will be disqualified.

We will have travelling sterile conditions from Wallendbeen into Cootamundra and ALL riders are required to observe the traffic rules and stay on the correct side of the road at ALL TIMES or be dealt with by the Police or Officials.

We also ask all riders as a matter of safety, if the stronger bunches are at the front of the race and You cannot mix it with the big names, please leave the finish to them as it is very fast and technical over the last 3kms. The road will be closed for the finish and we ask all riders not to come back onto the finish straight after You have crossed the line otherwise penalties will be imposed.

We as a promoting Club have done all in our power to ensure rider safety, the rest is up to you. Good luck and safe riding.

Kitchen is “Head Chef” at Murwillumbah

Active ImagePort Macquarie rider, Lauren Kitchen, has pulled off the biggest win of her short career, by taking out the U19 Women’s Australian Road Race Championships at Murrwillumbah.

The win was also a triumph for her team Real Aussie Kids.

Kitchen looked very much in control yesterday, and easily got the better of Megan Dunn in the sprint home.

“It was really tough out there today” Kitchen explained to CSN after the race, “but Megan and I were able to pull it together. We knew what we had to do and we worked together and it came through for us”.Active Image

Kitchen and Dunn managed to break away on the third climb part way through the first lap and from this point they maintained their advantage over the peloton which quickly began to  disintegrate as the climbs took their toll.

“I was going into the race to race the girls and give my best shot, and I wanted to hurt everyone on the hills because this is where I knew my strength lay, and whatever came from that I was going to be happy with”.

Going into the race yesterday, Kitchen’s form was very strong, partly due to the excellent guidance of her coach, Graham Seers, and the Real Aussie Kids Program.

Active ImageJust like the winner of the Elite Women’s race, Kristy Brown, Kitchen has been forced to do most of her racing against the men, but that turned out to be a real advantage.

“I’ve been training with the boys so I was feeling pretty much in form and hoping to do well here today”.

Lauren Kitchen will now be looking towards the Junior Worlds in South Africa where she hopes to better her 7th place in the Road Race in Mexico in 2007.

“I do better on the hills” she added, “And maybe this will be a big advantage in South Africa”.

McDonalds 48th Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic

The promoter of the McDonalds 48th Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic would like to announce a exciting team entry for the race on Saturday 20th September 2008.

Germany’s LKT Team Brandenburg have confirmed their entry into this year’s race.  The professional team, headed by World Championship Silver and Bronze medallist, Roger Kluge will bring it’s best six riders for the September 20th race.

The team hails from Cottbus, the same town the Ambassador and Sponsor of A Grade for the McDonalds Grafton to Inverell, Heinrich Haussler started his junior career.  The promoter, Inverell Cycle ‘n’ Tri Inc are very appreciative of the contact and help from Heinrich Haussler (Pro Tour Gerolsteiner) to get the team out to Australia.  It shows his commitment to the Grafton to Inverell.

Heinrich said the team’s primary mission is the 228km race.  It will be a magnificent boost for the race and a fantastic opportunity for the Australian continental teams to race against a team of their standard without leaving Australia.

The team is currently racing in France and Spain and Kluge is preparing for the Beijing Olympics.  The team will arrive earlier and will be joined by Kluge once he completes his Olympic Games campaign.

Kluge won a silver and bronze medal at the World Championships in Los Angeles.

The team will be accompanied by director Michael Max and team manager Steffen Blochwitz.  Blochwitz was Haussler’s former manager before he joined Team Gerolsteiner.

Woy Woy Road to remain closed until further notice

Woy Woy Road will remain closed in both directions until further notice with road users advised to take alternate routes.

The roadway, near Woy Woy Bay at Horsefield Bay, was closed after a section became unstable and subsided following the heavy rain in the area.

Council staff, geotechnical consultants and Road and Traffic Authority (RTA) officials are currently on-site investigating the cause of the subsidence and are working together to get the road open as quickly as possible, according to Council's Director of City Services, Stephen Glen.

"Residents who use Woy Woy Road to access the freeway are advised to utilise alternative routes," said Mr. Glen.

"We want to advise motorists that there will inevitably be delays, especially during peak times, and ask road users to allow for extra time for their journey," he said.

"Council will keep residents informed of any updates. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Further signage will also be erected to alert the public about the closure and alternative routes. Council has asked the public to obey safety signs and barriers that have been placed in the area.

Council will continue to keep residents informed through media releases, Council's website at www.gosford.nsw.gov.au and contact with local residents.
