Ian McKenzie

AIS Head Endurance Coach (CA/AIS)

For more than 15 years Ian operated as the SA Institute of Sport coach (with a dual role in the national program since 2000) and is now full time in the role of Men's Track Endurance Coach.  Ian has developed some of the best cycling talent the country has seen and been instrumental in the international success of Australian track endurance teams, including gold medals in Teams Pursuit at Olympic Games and World Championships.

 

Gary Sutton OAM

National Women's Track Endurance Coach (NSWIS/CA)

One of our most experienced coaches at a National and International level, Gary Sutton's list of coaching successes is long. Aside from heading up the biggest state institute of sport in Australia (NSWIS) and coaching elite athletes such as Ben Kersten, Gary has been one of the best coaches of junior teams in the world. In his previous role as Junior Performance Director Gary worked to develop and nurture our young talent for a future in the elite ranks

 

Gary West

Track Sprint Coach (CA/AIS)

Gary enjoyed an accomplished decade-long career with several Australian-based cycling initiatives, a four-year stint with the Japanese Cycling Federation and a role with the United States Cycling Federation before returning to South Australia to take up the position of Head Coach at the South Australian Sports Institute. An Olympian in 1984, West competed in the points race and was an alternate on the gold medal-winning team pursuit squad at the Los Angeles Games.

 

Matthew Gilmore

National Track Coach  - Madison & Points Race (CA/TIS)

A former Madison World Champion and Six-day specialist Matthew fills a part-time national role coaching Madison and Points Race cyclists.

 

ROAD

Martin Barras

Women's Road Coach (CA/AIS)

In the mid 90's Martin arrived from Canada and commenced working with the successful WA Institute of Sport cycling program. In 1999 he headed across to the UK to work with their 2000 Olympic sprint team. In 2001, Martin returned to work in the senior AIS/CA track position, coaching athletes such as Ryan Bayley and Anna Meares to Olympic Gold in 2004. After the Beijing Olympic Games Martin moved across to the role of Women's Road Coach.

 

James Victor

National U23 Men's Road Coach (CA)

As former National Women’s Road Coach and head coach for the Queensland Academy of Sport, Para-cycling Head Coach and Para-cycling Program Manager, James brings extensive experience to the National U23 Men’s Road program.

 

BMX

Wade Bootes

Head Coach BMX (CA)

Wade has a background as a world class BMX athlete and has displayed tremendous aptitude for elite level coaching during his time as National TID & Junior Elite Coach and in the course of his ASC Coaching Scholarship.

 

PARA-CYCLING

Peter Day

Performance Director/Head Coach (CA)

In 1991 Peter was appointed inaugural Cycling Head Coach of the Queensland Academy of Sport / National Training Centre, Peter coached many of Queensland elite performers including Paralympics Gold medallists Chris Scott and Greg Ball.  Peter's experience also includes several years as a Sport Programs Manager with the Queensland Academy of Sport. He also supported the High Performance Program in various National coaching roles and brings a wealth of coaching experience and management expertise to the Para-cycling program.
