A WORD FROM THE
PRESIDENT
President’s Message This weekend is SUPER. Well not quite, but we have made reference to it as the AGM Superweekend. So what does a super weekend incorporate? Racing and administration, both equally exciting events! Well ok, that may not be quite right either but the intention is to have a date and time that is more suitable to more people. It is impossible for country members to attend Tuesday nights at 7.30pm thereby limiting the input our country members can have. Yes, it can be argued that they can appoint a proxy but for a once off event it would be better to have them attending personally. We are hopeful that our programme that includes two consecutive days of racing will encourage our country members to make “another trip” to cycling’s home at Bass Hill. A full schedule of events is listed elsewhere in the newsletter for reference and it would be fantastic if you could attend. In fact we need you to attend. Sport, like business can suffer mostly from perception and we are certainly no different. Sometimes I am literally blown off “my saddle” when I hear what is “supposed to have happened” or what the Federation “said” etc. James Bond may have had a “license to kill” but some members must think they have a license to “create”. Mind you, most of it is harmless but it does tell us one thing. Communicate, communicate, and communicate. We believe we have been getting better and better at that and we now have some excellent means of disseminating information. We will always have perception but it will be minimized – attending the AGM is another way of ensuring the correct message is heard. I look forward to seeing you there. AGM Superweekend Schedule Saturday 20th May 9.00am to 1.30pm- Junior Criterium Championship DGV Criterium Circuit 12.30pm to 2.00pm- Commissaires Commission Meeting at DGV Meeting Room 2.00pm to 4.00pm Elite/U19/Womens Criteriums 2.30pm to 4.00pm Junior Development Commission Meeting at DGV Room 4.00pm to 5.00pm Coaches Commission Meeting at DGV Meeting Room 5.30pm to 7.00pm NSW Cycling Federation Annual General Meeting- Bankstown Sports Club (8 Greenfield Parade, Bankstown – please, check at reception for room location) 7.15pm to 8.30pm Cyclist of the Year Awards Presentation – Invitation only Sunday 21st May 10.20am Country and Metropolitan Road Championships Waratah Park, Sutherland
Cycling NSW announces Staff Changes Cycling NSW’s CEO is pleased to announce the following staff changes following the recent resignations of Kristina Short and Andrew Grant.
Graham’s focus will primarily cover Cycling NSW’s Regional Junior Development initiatives such as our Junior Membership Participation Program ($5 Kidz licenses for Juniors U13 years) and our Regional Academy Pathways Strategy targeting talented Juniors aged 13 to 18years for positions within our academy programs. Part of Graham’s responsibility will see him provide a structure that will lead to the development of Skills and level 1 coaches within clubs and to establish a Junior Development Mentoring program that will allow for Kidz license holders to undertake organized J – Skills programs within their club environment. Chris Kazub takes over the receptionist duties at Cycling NSW as well as assuming responsibility for the day to day office administrative tasks. Chris has worked with Cycling NSW for a number of years as one of our highly regarded volunteers. Brian Crawford is a member of the Kooragang CC and has decided to make the move to Sydney to join Cycling NSW in what he sees as an exciting time for Cycling over the next couple of years. Brian brings with him experience in Web design coupled with a sound financial background. He takes over from Andrew Grant who has done a great job over the last couple of years automating and streamlining many of our previously manual processes. We extend to Graham, Chris & Brian a warm welcome and trust they will enjoy the many challenges that lay ahead of Cycling in NSW. Kevin Young CEO
CYCLE SKILL
COACHING COURSE.
Cycle Skill coaching courses are just about up and running. The first course at Penrith Regatta Centre on Saturday the 27th this month was full up in no time. The next will be on the Central Coast with another good roll up and courses are planned for Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. The Cycle Skill course is now a prerequisite for the Lev 1 course so if you wish to gain the Lev 1 accreditation you must gain your Cycle Skill accreditation first. If you are interested in gaining your Cycle Skill coaching accreditation please email your interest to Barrie McLean and Barrie will add your name to the list of interested persons, as soon as we have 10 to 15 people in the same area we will organise another course. If country clubs can get 10 to 15 people together Barrie has the gear and will travel. Organiser and Coach: Barrie McLean Bookings are essential,

The Australian Institute of Sport Talent Search Program is conducting an exciting project looking to identify females with persistence and determination to succeed in CROSS COUNTRY MOUNTAIN BIKING. We are seeking females aged between 17 to 27 years old (parental consent required if <18 years old) with experience riding a bicycle (road, track, BMX, MTB) and who live in Victoria, NSW or the ACT (ACT residents: if you are willing to travel to Sydney for testing). The “Dirt Roads to London” initiative aims to identify the most talented females who could potentially represent Australia at the 2012 Olympics Games in London and provide them with the opportunities to become nationally and internationally competitive mountain bikers. The Australian Institute of Sport Talent Search Program will provide coaching from some of the best mountain bike coaches in Australia, training and education camps and assistance with access to competition. We are looking for a pool of approximately 20 athletes that have the physical and mental endurance to go the distance!
