Alex Simmons Benefit Night

Please note: due to a change of date for the Wagga Wagga Track open, CNSW has requested that the Alex Simmons Benefit night be moved to Friday 28th November 2008.

There should be some cracking racing, with the 3-person team format (a Sprinter, an Enduro and a Women making up each team) and teams can be club or trade-team based. It will be fast and furious fun, so if you're not racing, it will certainly be entertaining to come and watch.

Details of the racing and function are listed on website here:Alex Simmons' Benefit Night

The event is now on the CNSW calendar and can be seen here:CNSW Race Calendar - Alex Simmons Benefit Entries via the CNSW web site.

Towards the end of the racing, Alex gets to do another 500m TT and see how much he can beat the time he set back in August.

By Geenie Sheer

SYDNEY October 2008 - Cycling Australia is pleased to announce the renewal of our sponsorship agreement withToshiba (Australia) Information Systems Division (ISD) .

The partnership will see a continuation of Team Toshiba, the Australian professional track cycling team launched in 2007, and sponsorship of 'The Cyclones' - the National Team. Toshiba's sponsorship provides the opportunity for more of Australia's talented track stars to compete in world class events.

More than 200 riders from around the world are expected to line up for this round of the Series. 'The Cyclones', as well as contesting the World Cup Classics, will also compete at the World Championships in March 2009 in Pruszkow, Poland.

"Australian cycling has never been so strong with an abundance of talent across the nation so we're delighted to be back in the saddle with Cycling Australia," said Mark Whittard, General Manager, Toshiba Information Systems Division. "The relationship is a great fit as Toshiba is passionate about leading the pack using speed, power and performance and crossing the finishing line in style.

"As a company, we're very proud to carry on giving Australian cycling a flying start by investing in the stars of today and tomorrow."

"Toshiba's support over the past year has been crucial to the development of our young, talented cyclists with members of Team Toshiba being selected to represent Australia at the highest level of international competition over the past year," said Graham Fredericks, Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Australia. "We are confident the continued support of Toshiba will help our cyclists continue to achieve success at world level."

"Toshiba has been a fantastic supporter of the team and of me personally over the past year and I am really excited they are staying on board with us," said Meares. Further clarification relating to changes in 2009 Masters Racing Licenses

Following is further clarification as to the changes being implemented for the 2009 membership year which will affect Masters license categories.

Riders turning 30 years of age and above in 2009 will have two license category options to chose from:

1.     Masters License

2.     Elite License

1    Taking out a Masters Racing license - will enable the Masters rider to

·         enter Masters events,

·         enter graded Club events,

·         enter NSW Open events

·         but would restrict Masters from contesting Elite Championships and/or UCI Non Masters events

                2.   Taking out an Elite Racing  license - will enable the Elite rider to

·         enter ANY racing event (including Elite Championship events),

·         contest their respective Masters category Championships in the same year.

Under this By Law change  Masters-age riders would effectively enjoy four tiers of membership options – Recreation, Sport, Racing Masters and Racing Elite, which represents genuine choice to match their level of commitment and ability.

We are proposing the Cycling NSW By-Laws be amended at this evenings Council meeting to reflect these changes that have been adopted by the National Federation.

Change of Dates for Sydney Cup on Wheels

Members are asked to note the change of Date for the 2008/09 Sydney Cup on Wheels Track Carnival.

Due to a clash of bookings for the 22nd November we have now moved the Sydney Cup on Wheels to Friday evening 21st November 2008.

The event will cater for U17 riders and up and will also incorporate the Open Women/U19 Women NSW Scratch race championship.

Programming of events for this summer, given the limited number of days available is proving to be a nightmare. Cycling NSW is working closely with promoters to ensure all championship events are covered allowing sufficient time for teams to be selected prior to their departure for the national Track Cycling Championships.

We realize some of the programming will not suit everyone, for which we apologise up front. We are endeavoring to do our best and hope that some sanity will prevail in 2009/2010 where road events will not impinge on our track events to the same levels as are currently the case.

Cycling NSW - Coaching Courses

Cycling NSW are responsible for presenting CycleSkill and Level 1 coaching courses, Cycling Australia present Level 2 and Level 3 courses.

CycleSkill Course.   The CycleSkill course involves the completion of a Work Book mailed to the applicants 8 weeks prior to the course and returned to Barrie McLean at Cycling NSW 1 week out from  the course.

The day commences at 9.00 AM with the morning taken up with some theory including risk management and preparation for the practical work until 12.00 PM when we break for lunch until 1.00 PM.

After lunch the practical work starts and this involves teaching a number of children various bike skills as part of the assessment process.

The practical  is followed by discussion about the practical work and if all goes well the attendees will achieve their accreditation.

Level 1 Courses.   This course is a two day week-end with attendance compulsory for the two days. The applicants then must complete a Work Book received on the day, with reference material, as well as designing a 12 weeks training program using principles learned at the course and in the Work Book.

Upon completion the Work Book is returned to Barrie McLean at Cycling NSW for checking along with the training program. If both are OK you then we make arrangements for a practical assessment with Barrie McLean at a time that suits both.

Note!  A date for the first CycleSkill course for 2009 will be posted on our web site in 3 weeks, followed as soon as possible with a date for the first Lev 1 course. Because there are several  people involved  with the presentation of the Lev 1 course it takes some time to find a date that suits everyone.

Expressions of interest are welcome for both the CycleSkill and Lev 1 courses via email to Barrie Mclean with the name of the course in the subject line.
